Elle balances, weaves, dodges, frolics, and some of her bills are even paid. On weekends, to let off steam, she participates in full-contact origami. She has made extraordinary four course meals using only a mouli and a toaster oven. She breeds prizewinning clams. She has won bullfights in San Juan, cliff-diving competitions in Sri Lanka, and spelling bees at the Kremlin. She has played Ophelia in Hamlet, she has performed open-heart surgery, and she has spoken with Elvis… But she has not yet gone to Barkhamsted.
Emme is still trying to remember whether she wants 91 North or 91 South to get to 84 East from her apartment in Hartford. She’s pretty sure it’s 91 South, but then maybe she doesn’t want to take 91 at all and should just take Main Street. She never had this problem on the Southeast Expressway/Route 1/Route 93/Route 3 to Boston.
